Ms. Barbour has been instrumental in reshaping how I approach work as a director. In the last few years my directing practice had begun to evolve from “kitchen sink realism” to gaining an ever-expanding physical vocabulary. Slowly but surely, over time the productions I shepherd have taken on expansive physical lives with with stunts, lifts, dance, stylized movement, and combat. She took me by the hand and introduced my work to circus and her own approach as a movement director. She has been gracious, kind, giving, and brilliantly creative. I am lucky to have had the privilege of working with her this early in her career.
Working with Morgan Barbour was an extraordinarily dynamic experience. Her work is deeply collaborative, imaginative and flexible. She came to the room with a sense of how to build the moments the play needed in a way that would inspire creativity and ownership from the acting company and the movement work she did for The Winter’s Tale was truly the cornerstone of the play. Her work exceeded expectations in every way. Her efficiency, willingness and breadth of vocabulary gave me a real sense of ease in departing from the known path to try new choices and evaluate them with clarity and confidence. Morgan is everything I value in a movement designer: she has a strong vision, a collaborative spirit and a generosity that allows her to serve the story and the ensemble and make it seem effortless. She is someone I would hire again and again.
Her work on the production has been absolutely outstanding, with Morgan offering movement ideas always suited to the text and characters. Her vision has perfectly complemented my vision for the show and I have surely found in her a perfect collaborator. I will hopefully be working with her again soon
